Small batch chocolate chip cookies

chocolate chip cookie

Don't you just love chocolate chip cookies? My family loves it but most recipes make 30 or more large cookies. We get addicted to chocolate chippers when they are there... So this is from the same book (Small batch baking) as the White chocolate blondies, I made sometime back. This recipe just makes around 8-10 smallish cookies or 6 large cookies.

Now you want to know the texture- it is perfect, according to me. Crispy on the outside, soft-chewy on the inside.

Chocolate Chip Cookies - Adapted from Small Batch Baking.

2 T plus 2 t butter (room temp)
2 T brown sugar
2 T granulated sugar
2 T egg, well beaten
1/4 t vanilla
1/4 cup plus 2 T flour
scant 1/4 t baking soda
1/8 t salt
1/3 cup chocolate chips

Cream the butter and sugars, mix in the eggs and vanilla, stir in the dry ingredients, then the chips. Bake at 375 for 8-11 minutes.

These cookies look yummalicious. That is just the way I like my cookies - crisp on the outside, gooey on the inside.

  3. They look delicious, Mika. I like chocolate but Vijay is not a big fan. So this small batch recipe suits me. Thanks for sharing.

Trader Joe's opened a store in Pittsburgh last month, Mika. I remember your post on this store.:)

  4. Thanks so much for posting the small batch recipe Mika...I have been making these at unearthly hours like 2 am when the craving strikes and there are no munchies anywhere!! Having 6 cookies around means that there are few enough that I will want to postpone eating them to have them around a little longer...and to not feel terribly guilty if i've consumed the whole batch over a couple of nights. :)

I recently adapted this recipe as follows:
I substituted grated jaggery for the brown sugar and halved (i would recommend eliminating) the white sugar. The jaggery I used was Rani brand Gur balls, which i believe is softer than regular gur and melts more easily (I think its meant for chikki and other sweets which call for molten gur). I started by microwaving the gur and some of the butter for about 45 seconds....stirring the molten gur and butter and followed the rest of your instructions. Chocolate chips replaced by honey roasted peanuts and orange flavoured cranberries. Absolutely delicious!!

This recipe wins all the points for perfect texture in cookies...the perfect balance between chewy and crisp (both in your version and my gur one). Thanks once again!!

  9. Thank you for the recipe! I made these today and they are delicious. My only complaint is that they're a bit too sweet for my taste -- the recipe might be better with 1/2 a tablespoon less sugar. Just a thought :)

  13. just made them, turned out great!
one suggestion though: after putting them on a baking sheet tray, pop them in the fridge for 5-10 minutes so they chill and retain their shape, then put them in the oven to bake and they won't flatten out.

  15. Made these for a little neighbor boy, substituted one bag of M&M's for the chocolate chips, which is about 1/3 cup. (No leftover bag of chocolate chips to tempt me!)

    Thanks for the recipe.
